Abstract
A floating conduit for loading or unloading with ships' oil or water consists of a series of rigid steel sections 1, each rendered buoyant by a buoyant covering 3. This covering may be a sprayed-on or directly applied polyurethane layer which may be protected by fibre-glass covering 4. Sections of rigid pipe are joined by a flexible hose 5, e.g. of rubber, which may carry foam-plastics covering for buoyancy, e.g. discrete floats 7, as shown. The floats on the rigid pipes 1 may consist of a larger concentric pipe (10, Fig. 5, not shown) enclosing an annular air-space. The rigid pipes may be linked by a universal joint in addition to the flexible hose (Fig. 6, not shown). The hose 5 may have a buoyancy chamber.
