Abstract

Buoyant pipeline, for loading and discharging oil tanker vessels using a single buoy mooring. Consists of a series of rigid, buoyant pipe lengths, alternating with short lengths of hose connected between adjacent pipe lengths. Reduces expense as well as liability to damage. Each rigid length consists of a flanged metal pipe, which can be made buyout by a sprayed-on layer of polyurethane foam. This layer is protected by a sheath of epoxy resin-impregnated glass cloth. Instead, a buoyancy chamber can be formed between the pipe and a concentric metal casing with closed-off ends. Each hose length is of rubber with bonded flange connections. This can be left as it it, or made buoyant also, either by a layer of foam plastic or rubber or by ring floats of this material.
