Abstract

Floating cradle for lifting a floating boat clear of the water by supporting on a rigid cradle which can be manoeuvred into position beneath the hull and then raised by inflating ancillary flexible envelopes to increase the buoyancy of the cradle. The cradle is used esp. for raising barges or lighters for inspection or repairs below their waterline. The cradles are much cheaper than use of a conventional dry dock, do not require an immobilised but floating vessel to be moved. The no. of cradles used is variable to suit the length and weight of the vessel concerned.
