Abstract

965,880. Cartons. ISACSONS WELLEMBALLAGE A.B. May 3, 1963 [May 7, 1962], No. 17692/63. Heading B8P. A carton for chicks has an internal structure, made from two blanks of the kind shown in Fig. 2, which engages side walls of the carton by means of tongues 16 passing through slots 18 and being received by openings 17 provided in panels 6, 7 and 8 which form part of the side walls. All side panels 2-5 of the carton fold up from a base 1 with the end panels 6 folding to positions inside respective adjacent side panels 4 and 5 and the extension panels 7 and 8 folding about score lines G and F and being held in position by tongues 9 passing through slits 10a in the base. Each internal structure forming blank comprises two portions symmetrical about a line H, each portion having seven areas 12, 13, 14 and 15 forming intermediate walls of the carton, as shown in Fig. 3. The wall 13 of the structure is of double thickness but the remaining walls, formed by folding the areas at 45 degrees relative to adjacent areas, are of single thickness. Two such blanks form ventilating and feeding channels at the centre and edges of the carton. The narrow areas 15 are provided with tapered tongues 19 which pass through holes 21, 22 and 23 in a lid. Further ventilating holes 10, 11, 24 and 25 are provided. Like cartons may be stacked together with the tongues 19 of one carton supporting another carton at a distance from the lid and allowing air to circulate therebetween. The walls of the central channel are provided with openings 26 for feeding purposes.
