Abstract

965,239. Electric thermal storage space heaters. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Aug. 14, 1961 [Aug. 17, 1960], No. 28517/60. Heading F4U. [Also in Division H5] An electric thermal storage space heater comprises two heat storage units 1 (Fig. 3) mounted on a plinth 2, a top cover 12, and front and rear panel members 4, 3. Each heat storage unit 1 comprises a rectangular cannister 5 filled with heat storage material 6, e.g. sand or concrete, in which an electric heating element 7 is embedded, the front face of each heat storage unit being covered by a screen of expanded metal 9. The top cover 12 is of hexagonal shape and may be provided with ventilation openings 13. A space between and behind the panel 4 accommodates electrical connections to the units and control means, e.g. a thermostat (not shown). Terminal means (not shown) for the electrical connections are mounted on the panel 4. Releasable fastening means (not shown) are provided to connect the heat storage units, the plinth, the top cover, and the front and rear panels to one another. The canisters 5 may be lined with heat insulating material 14, and the panel 4 may carry an electric radiant heater (not shown).
