[Also in Division D1] An electrically-heated flat iron or other appliance comprises a sheet steel plate 1 engaged by a flat surface on a tube 3 containing an insulated heating coil 4, the tube 3 being tightly covered by a heat-conducting plate 6, e.g. of aluminium, secured to plate 1 by rivets 8 welded or soldered to the latter. The holes in plate 6 for rivets 8 are larger than the latter so as to allow for play between the plates and prevent stresses arising from differential thermal expansion. The arrangement may also be applied to hot-plates and ovens.
