Abstract
A cooking vessel 1 includes an electrically conducting layer 5 or element that is adapted to be heated by induction heating when positioned adjacent an induction coil 3, and thermal insulation 6 that limits heat loss from the vessel and extends between said conducting layer or element and the induction coil. Preferably, the cooking vessel comprises an electrically non- conducting vessel supporting the electrically conducting layer or element in which eddy currents are to be induced and which is of an optimum thickness for the induction coil with which it is to be used so as to give maximum power transfer compatible with maximum efficiency. Preferably, a conducting layer is provided on the non- conducting material of the cooking vessel as a fired coating. The conducting layer may be formed on the inner or outer surface of the cooking vessel. <IMAGE>
