Abstract
964,601. Addressing-machines. FABBRICA ITALIANA MACCHINE AZIENDALI. Dec. 11, 1961 [Dec. 16, 1960], No. 44246/61. Headings B6C and B6D. Stopping, starting, tripping, &c.-A device for advancing the address plates in addressing machines comprises at least one flexible closedpath member with means for pushing the plates and driven with unidirectional intermittent motion, said motion is derived from a continuously rotating shaft, and means is provided for disconnecting the transmission for a predetermined fraction of each revolution of the shaft. The drive shaft 24 carries a gear 25 during a gear 26 keyed on a shaft 27 and integral with a disc 33 having peripheral notches 34, 35 spaced 180 degrees. The flexible member is a chain 2 driven by a sprocket 14 freely mounted on the shaft 27 and rigidly connected with a plate 28 to which there is pivoted at 29 a dog 30 having lugs 31, 32. During rotation of the gear 25 from zero position as shown to 120 degrees, the gear 26 is rotated through 180 degrees, rotating the sprocket 14, until the lug 31 abuts the end of an arm 40 and disengages the lug 32 from the notch 35. During rotation of the gear 25 from 120 degrees to 240 degrees the sprocket 26 is stationary, and at 240 degrees a stud 41 rotates an arm 43 to move the arm 40 clear of the lug 31, whereupon the lug 32 moves into the notch 34, which is now aligned with it. During rotation of the gear 25 from 240 degrees to 360 degrees and on to 120 degrees the sprocket is again rotated. During each period of motion of the chain 2, the latch moves the distance between address plates.
