Abstract
1,138,027. Friction gearing; controlling clutches. ELEKTRONISCHE RECHENMASCHINEN WISSENSCHAFTLICHER INDUSTRIEBETRIEB KARL - MARX - STADT VEB. 4 March, 1966, No. 9523/66. Headings F2L and F2Q. A disengageable friction drive for converting uniform rotation into intermittent rotation comprises a continuously rotating friction wheel 9 drivingly engageable with a driven friction wheel 13, both having fixed axes of rotation and one being in the form of a hollow cylinder surrounding the other wheel, the driven wheel having at least one recess 14 in its friction surface, which recess when adjacent the continuously rotating wheel interrupts the drive, and control means are provided for stopping and releasing the driven wheel and for initiating rotation thereof. As shown, friction wheels 9 driven from an input shaft 8 through gears 10, 11, 12 engage the inner periphery of a cylinder 13 secured to an output shaft 22. Diametrically opposed recesses 14 (Fig. 4, not shown) in the cylinder 13 are adjacent the wheels 9 in the rest position of the cylinder. When the cylinder 13 is brought to rest by engagement of a stop 16 with a control lever 29 a cylinder 21, coaxial with the cylinder 13 and having angular freedom relative thereto limited by a pin 24 and slot 25, continues to rotate briefly to tension a spring 28 between the two cylinders. Spring loaded brakes 15 prevent back-running of the cylinders. On energization of a solenoid 36 the lever 29 is rotated clear of the stop 16 and the spring 28 imparts a starting impulse to the cylinder 13 to bring its friction surface into engagement with the rotating wheels 9. Recesses and stops may be arranged to provide additional fractional rotational steps of the cylinder 13. A single continuously rotating wheel 1 inside the cylinder 2 may have a corresponding counterpressure wheel 4 (Fig. 2, not shown), outside the cylinder which may be an idler, or a driving wheel, in which latter case recesses are provided on the outside of the cylinder 2 corresponding to those on the inside. Alternatively the wheel 4 may comprise a slipping clutch, and be used to impart the starting impulse to the driven cylinder.
