Abstract

964,530. Metal tubes; pipe Joints. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Sept. 14, 1962 [Sept. 21, 1961], No. 33872/61. Headings F2G and F2P. [Also in Division H1] A length 1 of circular hollow waveguide is reinforced by means of a sleeve 2, of e.g. aluminium, having one or more hollow longitudinal ribs 3. One (or more) of the ribs is partly or wholly closed up to tighten the sleeve about the waveguide. The intervening space may be filled with a thermosetting resin. The sleeve is the same length as the waveguide but overlaps it to a small extent so as to provide a plug at one end of the assembly and a socket at the other. In joining two lengths, the internal surface of the socket (sleeve) and the external surface of the plug (waveguide) are coated with a thermosetting adhesive. The adhesive is cured whilst the joint is held between external clamps and an internal expanding mandrel. Location holes for the clamps are provided in the ribs 3 near the ends of the sleeve.
