Abstract
998,253. Tube joints. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. May 1, 1964, No. 18180/64. Heading F2G. In a method of joining tubes 1, 2, the ends of the tubes are brought into contact within an oversize coupling sleeve 3, the space between the inner surface of the sleeve and the outer surfaces of the tubes containing an unset adhesive, e.g. an epoxy resin, and the tubes being brought into and maintained in alignment within the sleeve until the adhesive sets. The tubes may be of glass or metal having an internal optically reflecting coating of silver; the ends of the tubes may be conical. After setting of the adhesive the sleeve parts 5, 6 may be separated.
