Abstract

PURPOSE:To make sufficient fixing without using any binding agent to optical fibers by joining the optical fibers by the connection member which has a hole nearly identical to the optical fibers and has an outside diameter similar to that of the covering material of the optical fibers and bonding and fixing reinforcing pipes thereonto by covering the same. CONSTITUTION:A connecting member 1 is made of glass or the like and its outside diameter is nearly equal to the covering material 5 of optical fibers 4. The connecting member 1 has a hole 2 nearly equal to the diameter of the optical fibers 4 and is of nearly liner form. The optical fibers 4 are inserted into this connecting member 1 so that the fibers 4 join. On these are put reinforcing pipes 6 so as to cover the connecting member 1 and covering materials 5. The pipes are then secured by means of adhesive agents 7. With this constitution, the optical fibers 4 are secured with good accuracy of optical axes and also with sufficient mechanical strength. Since no binding agents are used for the optical fiber 4 portions, the damaging of the end faces does not occur and the ressembling and reuse become possible as well.
