Abstract

The connection for optical fibres, uses two ferrules (4, 8) enclosing the two fibres (1, 5) which have their sleeving (2, 6) cut back to leave two exposed ends. Each sleeve has a shouldered end, so that the two ends can be clamped together by conventional outer members (19, 20). One ferrule (4) has a counterbore into which is fitted a setting sleeve (13) to hold a ring (14) made from a precious stone, inside which terminates one fibre (1). A similar ring (17) for the end of the other fibre (5) is held inside the projecting top of the sleeve by the second ferrule (8). This ferrule has a bore with a shoulder (16) which clamps the two rings together, with the faces of the fibres in contact.
