Abstract

PURPOSE:To align all of plural optical fibers accurately in a V-shaped groove so that the optical coupling efficiency may not be deteriorated by using a holding plate having an elastic member at its contact surface so that the optical fibers may be held uniformly in the bottom of the V-shaped groove of a block. CONSTITUTION:Fibers 6 and 6' of fiber groups to be connected are fitted in a plurality of V-shaped grooves 3, which are formed in the recess of a block 1, so that the grooves 3 are aligned while using the center as a connecting point. An adhesive, which has an refractive index substantially equal to that of the fibers 6 and 6', is poured into the abutting portions. After that, a holding plate 2, which is equipped with an elastic member at the contact surfaces with the fibers 6 and 6', is fitted in the recess of the block 1 so that the block 1, the plate 2 and the fibers are fixedly secured while being pushed. Thus, an optical fiber 6-1 of small diameter can be uniformly held.
