Abstract

964,144. Colouring aluminium. KOPPERS CO. Inc. Sept. 26, 1962 [Sept. 27, 1961], No. 36621/62. Heading B6G. The surface of dyed anodized aluminium is sealed to improve its light-fastness by treating it with a solution containing 0.3-1.5% of a mixture of ammonium complexes of hydrolizable salts of copper, nickel and cobalt, the copper salt constituting at least 25% of the total salt. Preferably the salts are acetates but may be sulphates, oxalates, chlorides, nitrates, citrates, tartrates or fluorides. The solution may contain a borate, or boric acid, or sodium acetate to prevent its pH rising during use. In making the solution its pH may be reduced to 5.5-6.0 by adding glacial acetic acid. The solution may also contain a wetting agent. U.S.A. Specifications 2,008,733, 2,755,239, 2,888,388 and 2,975,081 are referred to.
