Abstract
963,659. Starting diesel engines. C.A.V. Ltd. June 26, 1963 [June 27, 1962], No. 24631/62. Heading F1B. [Also in Division H2] A maximum fuel stop for the control rod 2, Fig. 1, of a fuel injection pump comprises spring- loaded segmental parts 7 defining a hole 8 of smaller diameter than the end 10 of the rod 2, the parts 7 being movable apart by an operating member 11 to permit the port 10 to enter hole 8 and allow the rod 2 to move to the starting position. The end 12 of the member 11 may form a push button covered by a flexible dust cap 13. When the member 11 is fully depressed its inner end prevents member 10 moving to the starting position, whereby the operator cannot obtain excess fuel at undesirable times by holding the button 12 depressed. After retraction of the rod 2 by the governor upon starting, the parts 7 return automatically to their normal position. In a modification, Fig. 4, the member 11 is operated by a solenoid 15 in circuit with the starting motor switch 18, a thermal switch 17 breaking the solenoid circuit after a short period of energization.
