963,328. Ammunition packing. OFFICINE FONDERIE PATRONE S.p.A. March 13, 1962 [May 3, 1961], No. 9597/62. Heading F3A. A metal box for transporting rounds 30 of ammunition comprises a casing 1 into the open end of which a cover 11 is inserted and locked in position against a shoulder 6 by a device mounted on the cover. The locking device comprises at least four levers 21, which move into engagement with holes 14 in the casing when pressure is applied to a hand-wheel 10 mounted on a sleeve 12 supported by a spring 18, the sleeve 12 then sliding over a member 13 secured to the lid and housing the spring 18, the locking movement being completed by a partial rotation of the wheel 10. Surrounding the sleeve 12 is a second telescopic unit comprising an annular member 15 freely rotatable about the sleeve 12 and pressed against ball-bearings mounted in a flange 12a of the sleeve. The levers 21 are pivoted on a member 16, which forms part of the second telescopic unit and is stressed away from the member 15 by a spring 17. Member 16 is provided with two lugs 38, which can engage projections 39 on the sleeve 12, Fig. 5. Arms 42 of the member 13 ride in grooves 27 in the member 12 as the wheel is operated to close the casing, the arms 42 moving into grooves 28 as the wheel is turned to lock the cover and finally coming to rest in a countersunk portion 44 of the member 12. The cover 11 bears on a resilient sealing ring 22 placed on the shoulder 6. Buffers 2, 3, 4 protect the rounds against shock and matching projections 33 and grooves 35 allow nesting of the boxes.
