Abstract

963,182. Glue closures for cartons. WEST VIRGINIA PULP & PAPER CO. Jan. 14, 1963, No. 1547/63. Heading B8P. Glue is applied to the lapped closure portion of a carton in a pattern having decreasing bonding area in the direction of pull away from a pull tab 36, Fig. 2, foldably connected to the overlapping portion 38. In the form shown, the pattern is formed by a glue line 58, Fig. 4, printed across a pattern 54 of glue-rejecting ink, in which the glue line 58 need not pass through the edge 60. The glue pattern may be formed without using ink by initially applying the glue in the form of tapered areas. The flap 38, Fig. 2, and top 22 of the carton may be perforated as shown at 42, 44, 46, 48 to provide a rip opening means to gain access into the carton.
