[Also in Division F1] In a motor vehicle having an engine at one end driving road wheels at the other, the power outfit shaft 11, Fig. 1, is at a lower level than the crankshaft 10 and connected thereto by gearing 16 . . . 18, the output shaft 11 being connected to a propeller shaft 33, Fig. 2, which drives the road wheels through a changespeed gear spaced from the engine. The gearing 16. . . 18 is enclosed by a removable casing 23 and the shaft 11, which passes through a tube 26 in the crankcase is supported by a bearing 29, Fig. 2, carried by an extension 30 of the crankcase. In a modification, Fig. 4, the engine is tilted so that the shaft 33 does not pass through the crankcase. In a further modification the output shaft 11 is driven from the inner end of the crankshaft.
