[Also in Division B5] A discard saw for a metal extrusion press is mounted on a pendulum arm 32 swingable about a fulcrum 35 on a lever 37 pivoted at 38 to the press frame. The rotary saw 30 is chain driven by a motor 34 carried by arm 32, Fig. 2 (not shown). After extrusion of a rectangular profile A through die 25, the billet container 13, Fig. 2 (not shown), is withdrawn and hydraulic motor 42, 43 then moves lever 37 about its pivot 38 to position the saw adjacent the extruded product, Fig. 4 (not shown). Hydraulic motor 46, 47 then swings the pendulum arm 32 about its fulcrum 35 whereby the saw severs the product from the discard. The die 25 is mounted together with a block 26 on a transverse slide 20 operated by an hydraulic motor 23. An extension 40 of the lever 37 may carry a counterweight to ensure that the saw is normally held in a raised position. The saw may be used on vertical or horizontal presses and in the latter case the extruded product is received on a run-out table 29, Fig. 1 (not shown).
