Abstract

A method of degassifying alloyed or non-alloyed steel comprises subjecting the steel having a silicon content not exceeding 0.10% to a circulating vacuum degassing process using hydrogen as a circulating and reactive gas during the first part of the degassing. Before the degassification is complete the silicon content may be increased to kill the steel. Specication 961,945 is referred to.
