Abstract

961,750. Fluid pressure apparatus; reciprocating pumps. D. H. YOUNG, and H. J. TRETHEWY. June 12, 1963 [June 12, 1962], No. 22536/62. Headings F1A and F1P. A pump includes a pair of pistons 5, 6, in cylinders 2, 3, the pump chamber being below piston 6 in cylinder 3, the pistons being sealed by rolling diaphragms 8, 13 trapping a body of liquid or gas 15, and means is provided, such as a compression spring 16, to ensure that at all times the diaphragms are urged onto their pistons. The piston 5 may be driven by an electric motor and crank, or by a further piston 4 sealed to its cylinder 1 by a rolling diaphragm 7, and subject to fluid pressure. Piston 4 being of larger diameter than piston 5, an intensifier effect is obtained.
