A sliver ball winding arrangement is provided with a sliver traverse device in which a twist tube is fastened to a rocking arm movable about an axis that lies in the plane of the sliver as it emerges from the drawing rollers, thus avoiding variations in the length of sliver extending between the points of delivery from the drawing rollers and of take-up on the sliver roll. The rocking arm 1 carrying the twist tube 7 is driven through a link pivoted at 4<SP>1</SP> and actuated by a crankshaft that also provides oscillatory motion for the twist tube through a chain and spring drive acting upon a chain wheel 11.
