Abstract
961,570. Electrode materials and processing. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. July 19, 1962 [Sept. 13, 1961], No. 32866/61. Heading H1D. An electrode for a low pressure sodium vapour electric discharge lamp includes a body comprising a mixture of barium aluminate and between 5 and 25 w/o molybdenum or tungsten powder, or a mixture thereof, sintered together. The body may be a pellet held in a coil of tunsten or molybdenum wire. The pellets may be prepared by heating a powdered mixture of the metal and barium aluminate in a binder, e.g. methyl ethyl cellulose, to 1600‹ C. in hydrogen. The pellets are thus unaffected by exposure to air, and require only a short degassing period in the lamp before use.
