[Class 39 (i)] In a metal vapour electric discharge lamp, a quantity of coarse powder of a dense refractory material is provided loose within the envelope. In an example, tungsten powder which will pass through a mesh of 60 but not of 200 is introduced into a compact source mercury vapour lamp having a bulb diameter of 110 mms. If the mercury content is about 15 grammes, a suitable amount of tungsten powder is 40 grammes.
