A vapour generating plant comprises a gas turbine plant of the kind having a first turbine which drives the air compressor and a separate power turbine, the first turbine being arranged to drive also the feed pump of the vapour generator and being adapted to run at a speed which varies with the load on the vapour generator, while the separate power turbine drives an electric generator and is adpated to run at a constant speed at all loads. In Fig. 1 the gas turbine plant comprises a first turbine 3 which drives the compressor 1 also the feed pump 6 for the vapour generator 19, and a separate power turbine 4 which drives the electric generator 10 at constant speed. Exhaust gases from the power turbine 4 pass into the combustion space of the vapour generator 19 into which fuel is also supplied through line 22, the gases finally discharging to atmosphere. Water supplied by the feed pump passes into the tubes 20 of the steam generator, the steam passing through the outlet 21 to a point of use such as a steam turbine. In Fig. 2 air from the compressor 1 passes to the combustion space of the steam generator 19 to which fuel is also supplied, the combustion gases discharging through line 24 to the turbine 3 which drives the compressor 1 and feed pump 6, the gases then passing into the separate power turbine 4 and finally discharging to atmosphere. Steam generated in the steam generator passes through line 21 to a point of use. Alternatively, steam may pass from the steam generator to a steam turbine 28 indicated in broken lines, the turbine being arranged to drive the electric generator 10 in addition to the drive from the separate power turbine 3. A combustion chamber 26 is provided in the line 24 through which the gases pass from the combustion space of the steam generator to the turbine 3. The air compressor 1 in each embodiment may be provided with adjustable guide vanes.
