In a gas turbine plant comprising a high-pressure turbine 1 supplying useful output connected in series with a low-pressure turbine 4 driving an axial flow compressor 6 which discharges through an exhaust gas heat exchanger 8 to a combustion chamber 9 feeding the turbine 1, the output of the plant is controlled by adjusting together the fuel supply and the angle of incidence of at least some of the guide blades of the compressor according to a predetermined function. The guide blades of at least the initial stages of the compressor 6 are adjustable by a device 12 acting through a mechanism 13. Simultaneously the fuel supply is adjusted through an impulse pipe or other connection 14. The fuel may be liquid, solid or gaseous. If a gaseous fuel is supplied by a compressor driven by the turbine 4, this compressor should also be provided with adjustable guide vanes. A number of turbines may be arranged in series some of which may supply useful power and the remainder arranged to drive compressors. These turbines may be arranged on the shafts 3, 5 or on independent shafts.
