[Also in Division B1] In apparatus for the continuous treatment of a liquid, a roller 5 is rotatably mounted in a horizontal or inclined tube 1 and dips into the liquid 3 to be treated, which liquid flows the length of the tube and only partly fills it, gases or vapours being passed through the space 9 in the tube above the liquid level, both the tube 1 and the roller 5 being heatable or coolable. As shown, Fig. 3, a jacket 12 through which a heating or cooling medium may pass surrounds the tube 1, which latter may be stationary or may rotate in the opposite direction to the roller 5, in the latter case a film 15 of liquid being carried round the inner surface of the tube. The rotating roller 5 also carries a film 8 of liquid on its surface. The liquid in the tube is mixed by the rotation of the roller and, where applicable, of the tube, as at arrows 16. A well 17 may be provided along the bottom of the tube 1 when the latter is not rotatable. The apparatus may be used, e.g. for degasifying, vaporizing, condensing, liquid-gas reactions, or as a rectifier column.
