Abstract

Film evaporators; vapours, utilizing for effecting further evaporation.-In evaporating liquids, such as sulphite lyes, the liquid is applied as a film on a moving surface, for example, on the outside of a hollow rotating drum a which dips into a bath of liquid in a closed casing b or contacts with a feed-roller dipping into the bath. The vapours evolved are compressed by a pump d to raise the temperature slightly and passed to the inside of the drum to serve as heating-agent. The outside of the drum is kept clean by contact with a revolving brush j or a rubber or like scraper. The scale which is removed may drop into a part of the bath separated by a perforated partition, and may be continuously removed. The surface of the drum may be rough or polished and may be covered with wire gauze or absorbent material. The liquid condensed in the drum is withdrawn by a siphon pipe g and passed through a heat-exchanger i to heat the incoming liquid, which is supplied to the bath through a float-controlled valve h. Concentrated liquid is withdrawn through a valve m<1> operated, according to the specific gravity, by a float m. A scraper may be fitted inside the drum.
