Bulk evaporators.-In an evaporator of the type having two or more superimposed chambers 1, 2 each containing liquid with a face surface, the shell a of the evaporator is of cylindrical form with horizontal axis and the lower portion of this shell forms the bottom of the lowest evaporating chamber. Admission of liquid to the top chamber is controlled by a float in the lowest chamber, excess liquid in the upper chamber flowing into the lower chambers. The steam passes through the pipes 4 in all the evaporating chambers in parallel and the condensate is passed through the pipes in the lowest chamber.
