Separate heater and evaporator apparatus; film evaporators. - An evaporator 1 of the climbing-film type is combined with a separating-chamber 8, 10 in such a manner that the upper ends of the tubes in the evaporator are above the highest level which the liquid may attain in the separating - chamber. The separating - chamber is of the kind comprising a vapour - separating chamber 8 and a depositing - chamber 10 separated by a partition 9. Two evaporators may be used with one separating-chamber, and a double valve may be provided in such fashion that both evaporators may be in action simultaneously, or either of the evaporators may be cut out. The liquid enters the separating-chamber by a pipe 14 and returns to the evaporator by a pipe 6 fitted with a valve 23. The evaporator may be washed by circulating water through it after closing the valve 23 and also a valve 15 fitted at the lower end of the partition 9, and opening a valve in a pipe 12 connecting the upper chamber 8 with the return pipe 6.
