Abstract
<PICT:0740561/III/1> <PICT:0740561/III/2> <PICT:0740561/III/3> In an evaporator comprising a cylindrical container disposed in a vertical position, an inlet pipe for the liquid at the upper end of the container, and means for heating the inner surface of the container wherein the liquid is spread as a film on the inner surace of the container by wipers or brushes mounted on a rotating shaft, stabilization of the shaft is ensured by providing it with at least one journal, such as a wheel, which glides on a restricted area of the inside surface of the container and has passages to allow the liquid to flow down the inside surface of the container. In Fig. 1, the liquid is introduced into the apparatus through pipe 1, and is distributed over the inner surface of container 3 which is heated by jacket 4. The liquid is spread over the heated surface by a wiper and brushes 9 mounted on shaft 7. The lower end of the shaft is provided with a wheel 10 having vertical passages. The passages on the wheel may, however, be oblique as shown in Figs. 2 and 3. The vapours are withdrawn from the apparatus through outlet 6, which may be connected to vacuum apparatus; and the non-evaporated residue is withdrawn through outlet 5. In evaporators wherein there are several wipers, disposed one above the other, the journals may be arranged between the wipers.
