Abstract
<PICT:0598758/III/1> <PICT:0598758/III/2> Vacuum distillation apparatus comprises a stationary vaporizing surface having the shape of a solid of revolution, a stationary condensing surface coaxial with the vaporizing surface, and at least one displaceable member bearing resiliently against the vaporizing surface for distributing and rapidly renewing as a film, distilland introduced thereon. Distilland is introduced through conduit 58 on th the electrically-heated inside wall of cylinder 6 which is evacuated by pumps connected to conduits 18 and 20. The distilland is immediately spread into a thin film over the wall, both above and below the feed level, by brushes 38 which touch the wall and are connected to a rotating frame formed of eight rods 36 and two spiders 26 and 34. The vapours formed are condensed on surface 40; and the condensate flows into gutter 54 and is withdrawn from the still through pipe 56. Undistilled residue collects in gutters 8 and 10 and is withdrawn through conduits 60 and 62. Wiper blades may be used in place of brushes to distribute and renew the film.
