[Class 71] [Also in Group III] A high vacuum unobstructed path still comprises a vaporizing surface 4 and a condensing surface 8 forming an integral unit rotated by a pulley 18 mounted on a cylindrical extension 12 of the surface 8 which also forms the conduit for evacuating the still. The space between the surfaces 4, 8 is maintained under vacuum by means of a condensation pump liquid (mercury, diphenyl, &c.) evaporated by a resistance 31, high- and low-pressure jets 34, 38 and a gutter 42 for collection of pump liquid condensate recycled through pipe 44 to container 30. Liquid to be distilled is fed through pipe 46 to a central depression 6 in the plate 4 and is spread. in a film over the surface of the plate residual unevaporated liquid being removed through a pipe 50 having an S-shaped sealing bend to a collecting gutter 50. Condensate formed on the plate 8 is similarly collected through a pipe 56 in a gutter 58, The plate 4 is heated externally by gas jets 66. In Fig. 3, two stills A, B are formed in one unit bv mounting the rotating surfaces vertically with the vaporizing plates 44 in juxtaposition and forming with a cylindrical plate 90 a container holding the vaporizing fluid which is heated by gas jets formed in an annular header 92. The condensate collecting in the annulus formed between the plate 8 and flange 48 is withdrawn through a pipe 104 to a gutter 124 by means of a reciprocating pump 118, the shaft 120 of which is actuated by a stationary cam 114; similarly, residual distilland is removed through pipe 102 by the pump 106 ; the distilland and condensate form the still B are similarly removed through conduits 102, 104, but in this case rotary pumps are employed.
