Abstract

477,013. Condensation pumps. SYKES, C., BANCROFT, F. E., and METROPOLITANVICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. June 20, 1936, No. 17219. [Class 71] In a condensation vacuum pump operating with organic fluid, e.g. the oil known under the Registered Trade Mark " Apiezon," and comprising a plurality of uptake pipes 5, 6, 33 and jets 22, 26, 30 arranged in series and preferably coaxially the working fluid passes across the surface of the boiler 10 in a thin film. The boiler surface may be concave and grooved at 3, 4 to receive the slotted ends of the uptake pipes; the central part forming a sump 8 connected by passages 9 with the main reservoir 10. The condenser 15 is provided with a skirt 17 having two lips 20, 21, at least the former of which is serrated. At starting, vapours from the reservoir 41 condense on the skirt 17 and drip on to the baffle 14 whence they flow across the boiler surface, are again evaporated and pass to the various jets. The skirt 17 maintains a temperature somewhat higher than that of the condenser whereby high vapour pressure contaminating vapours are not condensed and pass out at the fore vacuum pipe 13.
