Abstract
323,999. Weir, Ltd., G. & J., and Sim, J., June 12, 1929. Condenser systems.-In a condensing plant for steamships' propelling machinery comprising a condenser c, a reciprocating air-pump a and an ejector vacuum augmenter v which delivers air from the condenser into the discharge pipe d, r leading from the bottom of the condenser to the air pump, a sealing chamber m is provided in the discharge pipe and contains air in its upper and water w in its lower portion; the vacuum-augmenter v discharges into this water, below its surface, and condensate from the condenser is delivered into the top of the chamber so as to fall freely therethrough into the water w. The condensate passes up a distribution chamber e on to a perforated plate g and falls as a spray which meets any rising air.or vapour discharged by the perforated pipe x from the vacuum-augmenter and uncondensed by the water w. The arrangement prevents the air pump from becoming dry.
