Abstract
557,270. Film evaporators; condenser and evaporator in structural combination. DISTILLATION PRODUCTS, Inc. June 10, 1942, No. 7901. Convention date, Sept. 17, 1941. [Class 32] [Also in Group XXII] In high vacuum unobstructed path stills, e.g. as described in Specifications 482,883 and 530,367 in which liquid is distilled by feeding it to the centre of a heated rotating vaporising surface over which the liquid flows in a thin film due to the centrifugal force, the rotating surface is constructed of spun sheet metal. In Fig, 1 the still comprises a casing 4 with removable top 6 provided with a draw off 32 for the vapours evolved. The liquid to be distilled is fed by a pipe 30 to the centre of a disc 16 made from spun metal and rotating on an axis 10. The disc may be strengthened by clamping it between smaller discs 40, 42 also constructed from spun metal (Fig. 2) or by filling the depressed centre of the disc with metal 80. Fig. 3 shows a similar still in which the disc, provided with a lip 50 rotates in a vertical plane. The undistilled material is collected in a gutter 52 thereby heating a coil 56 through which the distilland is fed. The vapours formed are condensed by cooling coils 68 and the condensate collected by a collar 60 provided with lips 62, 64 and gutter 66 is removed through conduit 63.
