961,214. Hoppers. J. D. DYSON, and C. R. DYSON. March 20, 1962 [Dec. 21, 1960], No. 43916/60. Heading B8S. The base of a hopper 1 for harvested root crops is constituted partly by a horizontal conveyer 9 and partly by a horizontal portion of an elevating conveyer 11. Preferably, the hopper walls are sufficiently steep to ensure that the contents will be substantially entirely supported by the base, which consists solely of said conveyer elements and with the conveyer 9 arranged to feed the elevator 11. The hopper may be charged by a separate elevator 31 forming part of a harvesting machine, and an additional discharge means may be provided in the form of an upwardly pivoting flap 25 on the side of the hopper remote from the elevator 11, the aperture opened by this flap being fed by running conveyer 9 in reverse. A length of conveyer chain of the same kind as constitutes the elevator 11 may be mounted between the walls 15 of this elevator to hang over the crop as it passes up the elevator and knock dirt &c. off the crop.
