Abstract

960,129. Supporting shades on lamp fittings. J. PEARSON, March 18, 1963 [Dec. 16, 1961], No. 45171/61. Heading F4R. [Also in Divisions H1 and H2] An electric light fitting for at least one fluorescent tube 7 provided with a ballast in the form of an incandescent lamp 13 comprises a central annulus 1 from which radiate three metal arms 2 each of which terminates in a metal clip 5 by means of which the fluorescent tube may be detachably mounted in the fitting, the clips being in contact with the wall of the tube and also connected by way of a high resistance 21 to a source of potential thus to facilitate starting of the tube 7, the annulus 1 further being used as a mounting for a holder 8 for the incandescent ballast lamp 13. The arms 2 also provide the means for mounting a shade 3, a starting switch 18 being attached to one of the arms 2. In a further embodiment the arms 2 support two concentric wire annuli, one of which has a diameter substantially equal to the internal diameter of the tube, the other of a somewhat lesser diameter, a flat annular shade being fixed between the two wire annuli and a further shade of frusto-conical form being hung from the smaller annulus by means of clips. One of the pillars 11 in the holder for the fluorescent lamp is divided into two parts so that, when connected to an A.C. supply, the incandescent lamp 13, the two filamentary electrodes 7a, 7b of the fluorescent tube 7 and the starting switch 18 form a series circuit with the central annulus 1 and arm 2 connected to the neutral line of the A.C. supply.
