A street lamp comprises a base mounting 10 adapted to be fixed to a bracket 12 and a housing 16 enclosing the operative equipment for the fluorescent tube 28, the housing carrying at one end a holder 36 for one end of the tube and a cantilever support 37 for the holder 41 of the other end of the tube, and the other end of the housing being detachably connected to the base mounting. More than one tube may be provided. The housing is provided with a hook 23 engaging an apertured lug 21 on the base mounting so that on releasing pivoted bolts (18, Fig. 6, not shown) from lugs (19) the housing may be swung down for servicing or completely removed.
