Abstract

881,140. Lamp holders. BURKE, M. May 26, 1959 [Feb. 26, 1958], No. 6212/58. Class 38 (1). [Also in Group XI] A hand lamp comprises a cylindrical member, part at least of which is light transmissive, adapted to receive a fluorescent tube having terminals at each end, connector means associated with the terminals and two end caps frictionally engaged on the ends of the cylindrical member which hold the connector means in engagement with the terminals, one of the end caps being formed as a handle by which the lamp can be held. In the form shown, a transparent cylinder 5 surrounds the fluorescent tube 1 and is closed at the end by caps 6, 7 of rubber or like material, the cap 6 being formed as a handle. A reflector 8 may partly surround the cylinder 5. Lamp holders 2, 3 are enclosed in the caps. A supply cable 9 enters the handle 6 and is connected to a terminal block 10 in the lamp holder 3, from which flexible conductors extend to the lamp holder 2 to which a starter 4 is also connected. The end cap 7 may have means, e.g. an eye, for hanging the lamp on a support. A separate housing 13, Fig. 2, enclosing a choke 12 may be connected by a cable to the terminal block 10. The lamp holder 2 has a moulding 18, Fig. 8, in which contact members for engaging the pins on the lamp are retained by a plate 22. Further contact members 26 are provided on the holder 2 which also carries a moulding 25 having arcuate slots with enlarged ends so that the pins of a starter can be inserted therein and, on turning the moulding 25, the starter will be secured in place and the pins brought into contact with the members 26.
