Abstract

A nickel based alloy comprising .C.0.03-0.3% .Cr.8-10.9% .Co.5-13% .Mo.2.5-6.2% .Zr.0.05-0.5% .B.0.05-0.5% and Ti and Al such that Ti + Al=6.6-11.5% and Ti/Al =0.2-1.5+ <PICT:0960020/C6-C7/1> <PICT:0960020/C6-C7/2> the balance being nickel with any unavoidable impurities such as Fe-0.5% Si-0.3% and Mu-0.3% has the Ti and Al contents so related with the Mo content, for a Ti/Al ratio of 0.7-1.5:1, that the composition of the alloy is represented by a point within the area ABCDA in Fig. 1 and when the Ti/Al ratio is 0.2-0.7:1, Ti + Al is from 3.7 X Ti/Al -0.43 x Mo + 8.48 to 1.6 x Ti/Al -0.43 x Mo + 11.45 the chromium and molybdenum contents of the alloy being related so that the composition of the alloys lies within the area IJKLI in Fig. 2. The alloys may be used in the cast state, e.g. for turbine blades, but in the wrought condition a heat treatment, e.g. solution heating at 1150-1250 DEG C for 1-3 hours followed by ageing at 900-1100 DEG C. for 1-24 hours, may be necessary.
