959,970. Tentering clips. MARSHALL & WILLIAMS CORPORATION. Sept. 5,1962 [May 28, 1962], No. 33973/62. Heading D1S. A tenter clip comprises a base 11 having a clamping surface 18, a bracket 12 having arms 13, 14 to overlie the surface 18.and a clip jaw 15 hinged to a pintel 16 so as to be normally free to move under gravity to clamp the fabric to be tentered against the surface 18; the jaw 15 comprising a face 25 having an arcuate or polygonal contour whereby in fabric-release position a maximum space exists between the face 25 and the surface 18 and in fabric-gripping postion the face 25 engages the surface 18 on the same horizontal line regardless of the thickness of the fabric being clamped. The face 25 is formed in a head 5 which may be integral with an operating arm 20, Figs. 1, 4 and 6, or may have an arm 31A, Fig. 5, pivoted to a bearing 30A in the arm 20 by a shaft 32 so that the face 25A may pivotally adjust itself to engage the surface 18 along the entire length thereof. The face 25, Fig. 6, is shaped to consist of equally spaced gripping zones having radial distances measured from the centre J of the pintel 16 gradually decreasing from A to G. The gripping zones may be connected by a contour of a "French" curve or by a long arc swung to connect all the zone points on the face 25 or short straight lines may connect all of the zone points. To assist the jaw 15 to close to fabric-gripping position a spring 45, Fig. 4, extending between a plug 41 screwed into a boss 40 and a projection 43 on the jaw 15B may be provided.
