959,501. Applying lotions to the body. F. MCDOUGALL-KALEY. Jan. 24, 1963 [Feb. 5, 1962; Jan. 11, 1963], Nos. 4368/62 and 1425/63. Heading A5R. A device for applying lotion &c. to the roots of the hair comprises a parting member associated with an applicator and reservoir, the passage leading to the applicator including an adjustable flow regulating device. In the preferred form the regulating device is an arcuate shutter 23 slidable in a groove 22 in the body 10, by means of a projection 24, so as close, to any desired extent, the passage 15 leading to the applicator roller 13. The latter is mounted on a spindle 34 in a housing 11 which is attached to the reservoir 10 by a bayonet fitting 32 or screwed arrangement. A tapered rod 12 projects from a point adjacent the roller and, in use, this is passed through the hair to part it and is closely followed by the roller 13 which applies the lotion to the exposed roots of the hair. An additional slide valve 27 may control the passage of incoming air and, in a modified construction of the appliance, the flow regulating valve may be accommodated within the applicator housing.
