Abstract

959,171. Root-crop harvesters; forage-harvesters. INTERNATIONAL HARVESTER CO. May 13, 1963 [May 29, 1962], No. 18819/63. Heading A1F. In a beet-harvester of the kind wherein a pair of rearwardly-convergent wheels co-operate to prise the crop from the ground, a rotary flail 11 is provided to impel the lifted crop on to a conveyer 22, the flail comprising a plurality of flexible members 33 each having an inherent double curvature, both in the plane of rotation and transverse thereto, and being rotated so that the convex faces of the flail members contact the crop. Each lifting wheel has a castellated rim 21 and spokes 16 and is mounted obliquely on a standard carried by the main frame 27. The flails are formed of rubber-tyre material, which has the necessary convex shape as well as a tread-surface 34 on the leading side. The flails may also be employed in a forage-harvester.
