A releasable gas pipe coupling comprises a male coupling member 58, 60 adapted to be pushed into a female coupling member 1 which is provided with a valve having a valve closure member 5 urged by a spring 4 against its seating 3 and locked in closed position by a plurality of radially movable locking members 66 each resiliently retained in locking position independently of the others. The arrangement is such that on inserting the part 60 into a guide sleeve 2 inside the member 1, the end portion 61 of the part 60 first engages the locking members 66 to move them to and hold them in the release position and the valve closure member 5 is then moved from its seating by the part 60 to establish a pipe connection from one coupling member to the other. In the fully inserted position of the part 60, a resilient packing ring 57 located in the guide sleeve 2 engages by snap action in an annular groove 73 on the part 60, a second annular groove 72 engaging the packing ring 57 in the partially inserted position of the part 60. This prevents inadvertent axial displacement of the part 60.
