Abstract

1531649 Pipe couplings CARL KURT WALTHER GmbH & CO KG 19 Sept 1977 [27 Nov 1976] 38923/77 Heading F2G A quick release pipe coupling comprises one part in the form of a body 1 providing a socket 4 for a plug-in spigot 5 of the other part, a sleeve 21 being provided on the body 1 which is axially displaceable against spring loading from the position shown wherein locking balls 10 are held in engagement with a groove 8 in the spigot 5, to an unlocking position, in which the balls 10 are free to move into a recessed space 25 in the sleeve 21 to release the spigot 5 and a securing sleeve 27 which is axially displaceable on the body 1 and which extends inside the sleeve 21 and is provided with balls 28 located between the sleeve 21 and an axially inclined portion of the body 1, the sleeve 27 being loaded by the spring 26 which loads the sleeve 21 in a securing direction as shown in which the balls 28 are carried up the inclined portion to engage in a groove 30 in the sleeve 21 to secure it against displacement towards its unlocking position, displacement of the securing sleeve 27 against the spring 26 causing the balls 28 to ride down the inclined portion so that the sleeve 21 can ride over the balls 28 to release the balls 10. A spring-loaded valve is provided in the socket 4 and is opened on insertion of the spigot 5.
