Abstract

957,997. Valves. M. BEHR, [trading as SUDDEUTSCHE KUHLERFABRIK JULIUS FR. BEHR]. May 16, 1962 [May 17, 1961], No. 18910/62. Heading F2V. [Also in Division F4] A valve for use in a vehicle heating system comprises an inlet 2 and two outlets 3, 4 controlled by flap valves 5, 6. The flap 6 is rigidly mounted on a spindle 7<SP>1</SP> while the flap 5 is rigidly mounted on a concentric inner spindle 7<SP>11</SP>. A lever arm 8 is fixed to the spindle 7<SP>1</SP> and the spindle 711 carries a toothed wheel 9 which meshes with a wheel 14 formed on a lever 11 and rotatable on the lever 8. The flap 6 is loaded in the closed position by a magnet 17 such that when the lever 11 is actuated by a push rod 12, the lever 8 is prevented from rotating and the wheels 9, 14 rotate to open the flap 5. When the flap 5 is fully opened, further movement of the rod 12 opens the flap 6 through the lever 8 moving both flaps to a position closing the duct 3. The flap 5 also carries a magnet 16. The duct 3 leads to a de-mister or de-icer nozzle while the duct 4 leads to the vehicle interior. The rod 12 may be actuated manually or by a temperature responsive device. The valve may also be used as a mixing valve in which case, the ducts 3, 4 are the inlets and duet 2 is the outlet.
