Abstract
957,837. Diazotype developer compositions. CHEMISCHE FABRIEK L. VAN DER GRINTER N.V. Aug. 22, 1962 [Aug. 31, 1961], No. 32338/62. Heading G2C. A developer composition for diazotype material comprises phloroglucinol as the principal coupling component and potassium and/or lithium maleate as the principal buffer and has a pH in aqueous solution between 6.5 and 7. The maleate may be added as such or formed in situ from the acid and alkali. Optional ingredients mentioned are reducing agents e.g. thiourea; stabilizers e.g. hydroquinone mono-sulphonic acid, minor proportions of other couplers, e.g. resorcinol, and buffers e.g. disodium phosphate and wetting agents. The pH may be adjusted with maleic or other acid or acid-reacting salt. The developer may be formulated as a solution or in powder or tablet form. It is particularly suitable for the "semi-wet" development of diazotype material sensitized with a compound of the formula wherein X is an anion, R 1 and R 2 are methyl or ethyl groups or R 1 is a methyl and R 2 a cyclohexyl group, and Ar is a phenyl group with at most two substituents, such materials being described in Specifications 919,037 and 919,812. Specifications 425,235, 544,882 and 957,836 also are referred to.
