Abstract

425,235. Photographic diazotype processes. LEUCH, W. P., and HARDING, Ltd., S. C. & P., Alliance Works, Denmark Hill, London. Sept. 11, 1933, No. 25168. [Class 98 (ii)] A developer for diazotypes having a pH value less than 7 and containing one or more phenolic coupling components, contains also a salt of a strong base with a weak acid which acts as a coupling accelerator. As coupling accelerator sodium, potassium, or ammonium salts of acetic, formic, adipic, benzoic, phenylamido-acetic, succinic malonic, malic, citric, tartaric, molybdic, tungstic or stannic acid or a primary or secondary phosphate may be used. To avoid bleeding of the resulting dye, small quantities of salts, such as sodium chloride, can be included in the developer. Examples are given of (1) paper sensitized with the zinc chloride double salt of 5-amino-2 benzoylamino-1 4-diethoxybenzene and sodium dihydrogen phosphate and developed with a mixture of phloroglucine, sodium chloride, sodium acetate and tartaric acid ; (2) paper sensitized with tetrazo - 3 : 31 - dichlor - dianisidine (5: 5<1>) and potassium alum and developed with the composition of Example 1 or with a mixture of phloroglucine, resorcine, sodium formate, barium chloride and ammonium dihydrogen phosphate ; (3) a developer consisting of phloroglucine, potassium citrate, sodium chloride and citric acid ; and (4) a developer consisting of phloroglucine, potassium metaborate and tartaric acid. The developer may be incorporated in a layer of gelatin, upon the surface of which the paper to be developed is pressed. An inert and opaque pigment, such as barium sulphate, may be included in the layer.
